Louise A. Sienko, 89, of Hancock, died on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at her home on West Main Street. She was born Louise Albina Gaudor, October 16, 1925, in Somerville, MA, the daughter of Olive and Frances Gaudor. She was predeceased by her brother, Frances, and her sisters, Lilian and Anna.
Louise graduated from Somerville H.S. and her first job was as a switch board operator at the Hotel Kenmore, residence of the Boston Red Sox. During World War II, Louise also worked in the Hood Rubber Defense Plant in Watertown, MA.
Louise married Leonard E. Sienko of the US Navy and Lake Como, PA on February 24, 1945. Leonard preceded her in death after 68 years of marriage.
Louise was employed at Stockport Lumber-Penn Hardwood Sales, Hancock PA-Side as secretary, then Office Manager. She was also a secretary at Johnston-Rhodes Bluestone Co. of East Branch, NY, where she was promoted to Office Manager and later served as an Office Management Consultant. Louise’s final professional position was as Law Office Administrator for The Sienko Law Office, Hancock.
Louise was a devoted member of St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Hancock for more than 60 years. She served on the Parish Council, was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society and the Catholic Women’s Welfare League. She taught CCD classes. Louise was past Grand Regent of the local Court St. Mary’s of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and served as District Deputy for the local area.
Ms. Sienko was a charter member of the Hancock Business & Professional Women’s Club. She served as President and moved up through the “chairs” of BPW-NY until she reached the office of NYS President in 1980-81. She later served as National Political Action Committee Chair of the BPW-USA, working with several nationally known figures, such as Geraldine Ferraro, for equal rights and equal pay for women.
Ms. Sienko was the first woman to be a member of the Hancock Rotary Club. Shortly thereafter, she became the first woman to be President of the club.

Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 from 6-8PM at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 10:30AM at St. Paul’s Church, Hancock, with Father Christopher Welch officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hancock. There will be a luncheon served by the Bethany Ministry.
